Synopsis

An 18-year-old student gets superpowers after an experiment conducted by his father.[1]

Premise

Purple Bolt is the story of an 18-year-old student, living in Phebridge City, New York, who suffered an accident when he was five years old. He later learned that the accident changed his life and became a superhero known as Purple Bolt, inspiring little kids to do good and aim to be their best selves. But the road wasn’t always easy for him. He had faced hard decisions along the way, which cost him.[1]

Plot

The book's story is split into multiple chapters, the first one being called Origins[3].

Chapter One: Origins

Born on September 19th, 2002, Jonathan Kayne was a young boy fascinated by science. His parents, Emily and Peter Kayne were scientists planning to found their research facility. For five years he's lived a normal life, while his parents were doing experiments in their garage, in the hopes of finding treatment for cancer.

One day, when he was five years old, his father was performing an experiment using electricity with altered properties, as he was running to him to show his father something, when the device containing the lightning exploded. The explosion sent bolts of lightning all over the house, hitting everything, including one that struck Jonathan, which rendered him unconscious on the floor.

Following his accident, Jonathan was taken to the hospital by his parents, where his condition was diagnosed as being abnormal, his heart beating faster than usual.

His parents were told by the doctor that in order for his condition to stabilise, he had to receive a special, experimental set of drugs. A day after receiving the treatment, he recovered, and was let go from the Hospital following a final check. The rest of his life went by normally, having graduated the Phebridge City High School, he joined the Computer Science Bachelor's Degree program at the Phebridge City University, once he turned 18.

However, one day, as he was walking down the street, he passed by an old man, and he started feeling static electricity flowing through his hand.

Following the incident, he began experiencing sequences of time slowing down Looking back, he noticed the old man was already gone. Wanting to learn what was wrong with him, he decided to investigate what's going on with him, so he sneaked into his parents' research lab at night to do so.

Following the investigation, he found out his molecular structure had changed to allow him to move faster than any other human being. After making the discovery, Jonathan decided to start training so he could use his newly found powers to help others. A month after the training started he became Purple Bolt.
